WAFCAT in cooperation with Foundation for Children with Disabilities (FCD) organized the 1st Wheelchair Dane Camp for Bedridden Children in Thailand at Wan Yao Riverside Resort in Nakhon Nayok on September 25th and 26th, 2017.
This Camp was sponsored by AIOI Bangkok Insurance (150,000 baht) and organized as part of Annual Family Camp of FCD for 14 disabled children and 17 parents. For this Camp, we invited Dr. Kyoko Terada (Nagoya College, WAFCA’s Board Member) and Dr. Yasuto Terada (Nagoya University of Economics) as lecturers. They have been studying the effectiveness of wheelchair dance as fitness for both bedridden children and parents who dance together for 6-15 minutes at least 3 days a week for more than 1 year.
Dr. Kyoko Terada: “Wheelchair Dance” can be a very good exercise for any levels and types of disabilities. The most important thing is to enjoy dancing!
Participant (Mother): At first, I was very nervous because I wasn’t confident if I can remember all the steps I learn. Now I understand that my daughter and I can just relax and enjoy dancing. I am very happy to see my daughter and other children smile. I would like to continue practicing.
